Following a very successful July festival (despite the dreadful weather) in 2008 we are going for the same week this year.

Starting at 6.30 on Tuesday 30th June, and running until the evening of Sunday 6th July beer takes total control at the Bhurtpore. We have committed to staying open all afternoon from Wednesday onwards. Not sure how we will staff it but we can worry about that nearer the time!

The Great Bhurtpore Fire
Reports that the pub burnt down just before Christmas were somewhat exaggerated. A small extractor fan in the ceiling of the ladies toilet overheated and set fire to the area around it. Luckily, a fireman who happened to be dining had the fire out before the fire engines arrived. We were open the next lunchtime, but customers on the night were all evacuated and I apologise to them for the inconvenience.

Music sessions
On the third Tuesday of every month, we open our doors to local folk musicians who come and entertain us from 9 pm onwards. Musicians and music lovers are equally welcome.

Wobbly Wheels
On many Monday or Tuesday nights, from late March to late September, cyclists gather to head off for a tour of local pubs, returning for chip butties to restore equilibrium at around 10.30 pm.

The pace is fairly sedate these days as many of us are not as young as we once were.  Newcomers are always made to feel welcome. Please contact the pub for more information.

Vintage Sports Car meetings
The first Thursday evening of each month sees people turning out in a fabulous selection of venerable machinery, accompanied by a selection of other interesting vehicles of all ages. Turnout does depend on weather and time of year.

Cricket
We have a team in the local knock out competition. The approach is light -hearted, but handy players are always welcome.

Fantasy Football
To really enjoy the Premier League season to the full you need a team in the Bhurtpore Superleague, courtesy Telegraph Fantasy Football. Probably a bit late to join in this year, but bear it in mind for 2009/10!

Some managers are already as sick as parrots. And one lucky chap will be over the moon when he collects the cash prize. Either way, it will be a season of two halves (and many pints).
